Inside the formulas

Every ingredient has a job. Every detail has a reason.

Cycle System and Cramp Patch are built one decision at a time. Here is what each ingredient is there to do, the exact form we chose, how much is in every dose, and why that is worth paying for.

  • Every ingredient and every milligram on the label
  • Individually blister-sealed capsules
  • Cycle System made in France
  • Every supplement batch lab-tested

Start with what you feel

What is happening, and what we put there for it.

Choose a symptom to see what can be going on in your body, which formula is built for it, and the ingredients doing the work.

In your body

Before and during your period, the lining of the uterus releases prostaglandins. These compounds make the muscle of the uterus contract so it can shed the lining. Stronger contractions are what you feel as cramps, low in the abdomen and often in the lower back.

Why the formulation matters

Cramps get two lines of support. Fennel, ginger and yarrow, three of the most studied botanicals for period cramps, sit in the capsules you take across your nine-day window. Cramp Patch adds comfort you apply exactly where you feel it, the moment it hits.

Research context. Fennel, ginger and yarrow have each been studied in randomized trials for menstrual cramp pain, mostly as single ingredients and often at higher doses than in our multi-ingredient formula. See the research by ingredient

Key ingredients

Why PMS is never just one symptom

One hormonal shift. Several symptoms. One nine-day window.

After ovulation, estrogen and progesterone rise. In the days before your period, both fall. Cramps, bloating, irritability and broken sleep tend to cluster in that same stretch, which is why a single-ingredient fix rarely covers it.

Cycle System is timed to it. Start seven days before your period and continue through the second day. If your cycle is irregular, start when your symptoms start.

  • Cramps
  • Bloating
  • Water retention
  • Irritability
  • Low mood
  • Lighter sleep
Hormones across a typical cycle, with the Cycle System window Estrogen rises to a peak before ovulation and again more gently after it, progesterone peaks after ovulation, and both fall in the last week. The nine-day Cycle System window covers the seven days before a period and its first two days. Illustrative, not to scale. Cycle length and hormone levels vary from woman to woman.

The PMS Bundle

Three roles. One routine.

Cycle System covers the nine days, morning and evening. Cramp Patch covers the moments inside them when cramps break through. Together they are the most complete way we know to get through PMS.

Mornings

Cycle System Day

Comfort, mood and function for the day ahead. Built around fennel, chaste tree and rhodiola, with turmeric, ginger and the active form of B6.

1 capsule each morning

Fennel 100 mg, rhodiola 100 mg, turmeric 50 mg, chaste tree 40 mg, ginger 10 mg, black pepper 5 mg, vitamin B6 5 mg, vitamin D3 2.5 mcg

Evenings

Cycle System Night

Calm, recovery and sleep. Yarrow for cramp comfort, with passionflower, lemon balm and magnesium for winding down.

1 capsule each evening

Yarrow 80 mg, lemon balm 80 mg, passionflower 50 mg, magnesium 30 mg, vitamin B6 5 mg, lavender oil 2 mg, sweet orange oil 2 mg

When cramps hit

Cramp Patch

Comfort exactly where you feel it. A thin botanical patch for your lower abdomen or lower back that stays on through your day.

Wear up to 12 hours

Boswellia 50 mg, arnica 30 mg, ginger 12 mg, eucalyptus oil 5 mg, orange peel oil 3 mg, lavender oil 2.5 mg, menthyl lactate 2 mg, bisabolol 1 mg, per patch

Your nine-day routine

On harder days in the window you can take 2 Day capsules in the morning and 2 Night capsules in the evening. Never more than 4 capsules in 24 hours. This is a nine-day routine each cycle, not an everyday supplement.

  • Night capsule, evening

The PMS Bundle

One Cycle System box (14 Day + 14 Night capsules) and one Cramp Patch pouch (6 patches), in one order.

$52 one-time

Save $9 compared with buying them separately

  • Why both? Cramps are rarely the only symptom, and the capsules are not the only moment you need help. The routine covers the nine days. The patch covers the hour that gets away from you.
  • Monthly subscription: $46.80 a month, ships free. Skip or cancel before your next charge.

The 3-Month Program

Three Cycle System boxes and three Cramp Patch pouches, delivered together, with a Welcome Kit in your first shipment. $124.80 every three months, $41.60 a month. Ships free. Renews automatically every three months until you cancel.

Why three cycles: take Cycle System in the same nine-day window each cycle and note how cramps, bloating, mood and sleep compare. Three cycles gives you a fair comparison, not a verdict on one.

Prefer one product? Cycle System or Cramp Patch. Your first order is covered by our 30-day first-order guarantee. View terms

Pairings

Some ingredients do more together.

Turmeric + black pepper

50 mg + 5 mg, same Day capsule

Curcumin on its own is poorly absorbed. Piperine, from black pepper, helps more of it reach your bloodstream. A small amount with a specific job.

Passionflower + lemon balm + magnesium

50 mg + 80 mg + 30 mg, Night capsule

The evening trio. Two sleep-studied botanicals with magnesium for muscle relaxation, kept out of your morning.

Arnica + boswellia + ginger

92 mg combined, per patch

The core of Cramp Patch. Three traditional topical botanicals, with cooling oils so you can feel the patch in place.

Research summaries describe published studies of individual ingredients, often at different doses or in different extracts. They are not trials of Kaia Relief products, and a studied amount is not an instruction to take more.

Fennel seeds

Cycle System Day

Fennel

Cramp and bloating support

Form
Fennel fruit dry extract
Ours
100 mg per Day capsule

The Day capsule's largest botanical. Fennel has some of the most cited research for period cramps, and a long history of use for bloating and digestive comfort.

Botanical name and research

Foeniculum vulgare, fruit

A 2020 meta-analysis of 12 randomized trials found fennel comparable to conventional pain relievers for menstrual pain, and better than placebo.

Chaste tree berries

Chaste tree fruit dry extract, 4:1 concentrate
Ours
40 mg per Day capsule (from about 160 mg of fruit)

Ours
50 mg per Day capsule
Studied

Black peppercorns

Cycle System Day

Black pepper

Absorption partner for turmeric

Form
Black pepper fruit extract standardized to 95% piperine
Ours
5 mg per Day capsule
Studied
5 to 20 mg

Piperine slows the breakdown of curcumin, so more of it is absorbed. Small amount, specific job.

Botanical name and research

Piper nigrum, fruit

The effect of piperine on curcumin absorption is well documented.

Ginger root

Cycle System DayCramp Patch

Ginger

Cramp and abdominal comfort

Form
Day capsule: root dry extract, 10:1 concentrate. Patch: ginger CO2 extract
Ours
10 mg per Day capsule (about 100 mg of root)
12 mg per patch
Studied

Ginger appears twice, in the form suited to each job: a 10:1 concentrate in the capsule, and a concentrated CO2 extract in the patch for warmth at the application site.

Botanical name and research

Zingiber officinale, rhizome

Meta-analyses find ginger more effective than placebo for menstrual discomfort. In Cycle System it is one part of a multi-ingredient formula.

Mood and normal nervous system function

Form
Pyridoxal 5'-phosphate (P5P), the active form of B6
Ours
5 mg per Day capsule and 5 mg per Night capsule
Studied
50 to 100 mg a day

We use P5P, the form your body uses directly, rather than pyridoxine hydrochloride, the common form, which has to be converted first.

Form and research

Pyridoxal 5'-phosphate

A systematic review of nine trials found vitamin B6 helped premenstrual symptoms. Here it is a supporting nutrient within the formula.

Lichen, a plant source of vitamin D3

Cycle System Day

Vitamin D3

Nutritional support

Form
Cholecalciferol from lichen
Ours
2.5 mcg per Day capsule
Studied
Much higher doses, to correct a deficiency

Sourced from lichen, a plant, rather than lanolin from sheep's wool.

Source and research

Cholecalciferol, from lichen

Research linking vitamin D to premenstrual symptoms mainly concerns correcting a deficiency. Here it is nutritional support.

Dried yarrow flowers

Cycle System Night

Yarrow

Cramp comfort through the evening

Form
Yarrow aerial-parts dry extract, 4:1 concentrate
Ours
80 mg per Night capsule
Studied
Tea form, in one double-blind trial

Passionflower

Winding down and sleep quality

Form
Passionflower aerial-parts dry extract, 4:1 concentrate

Magnesium powder

Cycle System Night

Magnesium

Muscle relaxation and premenstrual fluid balance

Form
Magnesium bisglycinate, a buffered chelate
Ours
30 mg of magnesium per Night capsule
Studied
200 mg a day

Magnesium bound to glycine, chosen over magnesium oxide, the cheaper form. In the Night capsule, because magnesium supports normal muscle function and relaxation.

Form and research

Magnesium bisglycinate

A double-blind crossover trial found 200 mg of magnesium a day eased premenstrual fluid-retention symptoms (bloating, swelling, breast tenderness) by the second cycle. Ours works within a broader Night formula.

Boswellia leaves

Cramp Patch

Boswellia

Topical comfort support

Form
Boswellia resin extract, AKBA-enriched
Ours
50 mg per patch, the largest active in the patch

We chose an AKBA-enriched extract over generic boswellia. AKBA is one of the resin's key active compounds.

Botanical name and research

Boswellia serrata, resin

Topical boswellia has been studied for joint comfort. There is no landmark trial of a multi-botanical menstrual cramp patch, and we do not claim one.

Traditional topical comfort

Form
Arnica flower extract
Ours
30 mg per patch

Used on the skin for centuries for muscle comfort. One of the three core botanicals in Cramp Patch.

Quality you can see

What you are paying for.

  1. French formulation

Cycle System and Urinary Duo are formulated and manufactured by a laboratory in France's Loire Valley. Cramp Patch is formulated in France and manufactured in the United States.

  2. Selected extracts, specified to a marker

95% curcuminoids. 2.5% rosmarinic acid. 30% PACs. 95% piperine. AKBA-enriched boswellia. P5P instead of pyridoxine. We specify what the extract has to contain, not just the plant it came from.

  3. Every quantity on the label

No proprietary blends. Every ingredient and every milligram is printed, per capsule and per patch, so you can compare it against anything else you are considering.

  4. Tested, batch by batch

Every supplement batch is screened for heavy metals by ICP-MS and for microbial contamination to European Pharmacopoeia methods. Vitamins are measured by HPLC, magnesium by ICP-MS, the probiotic by plate count. A batch outside specification does not ship.

    Download the batch certificates

  5. Individually blister-sealed

A bottle exposes every remaining capsule each time it opens. A blister keeps moisture, air and light out of each dose until you press it through. That matters most for live cultures, and it makes a short routine easy to carry.

Questions

What people ask us.

Why doesn't every amount match the dose used in a study?

Because each Kaia Relief product is formulated as a complete system, not a collection of single ingredients copied from separate trials. Published studies usually test one ingredient at a time, over a short period. Our amounts are chosen in the context of the whole formula, for repeat use and tolerability. Where the pack allows it, some products include a higher labeled use for harder days.

Why is Cycle System split into Day and Night?

Your body needs different support at 8 AM and at 10 PM. The Day capsule focuses on comfort, mood and daily function. The Night capsule focuses on calm, recovery and sleep. An adaptogen that supports daytime energy does not belong in a sleep formula, and a muscle relaxant does not belong in your morning capsule.

How do I take them, and for how long?

Take Cycle System only during its nine-day window: the seven days before your period and the first two days of it. It is not meant for daily use through the month. Urinary Duo is for short-term use, up to seven days in a row. Follow each product's directions, and do not take more to try to get faster results.

Can I use more than one Kaia Relief product at the same time?

Yes. The products are designed to work together, and Cramp Patch can be used alongside any of the capsules. If you take other medications or supplements, check with your healthcare provider.

Are the capsules vegan and allergen-free?

Every capsule shell is HPMC, a plant-based material. No gelatin and no animal-derived ingredients. The capsules contain no gluten, dairy, soy, nuts or eggs. If you have a specific allergy, check the full ingredient list on the label or contact us.

What happens when new research comes out?

We follow the published literature. If new human trials change the picture for an ingredient we use, we update this page and, if warranted, the formula.
